Fallen Leaf Lake Community Services District

For Emergencies, Call 911

Dear Fallen Leaf Lake Community Members and Visitors,

As we enjoy another season we would like to remind everyone of an important requirement that helps protect the safety, comfort, and enjoyment of residents and visitors.

Under El Dorado County law, dogs are required to be kept under restraint when off their owner’s property. Specifically, El Dorado County Code Section 6.12.070 (“Running at Large Prohibited”) states that animals must be confined to their owner’s property and that any animal, other than a working animal, must be restrained by a leash no longer than ten feet when removed from an enclosed private lot or enclosed private place.

This ordinance exists to protect community members, visitors, pets, and wildlife, and to reduce the risk of conflicts, injuries, and other incidents that can occur when dogs are allowed to roam freely.

The Fallen Leaf Lake Community Services District and Big Blue Hospitality are obligated to inform residents and visitors of this requirement and encourage compliance. While many dog owners are conscientious and responsible, concerns have been raised regarding dogs being allowed off leash in areas where leash requirements apply.

We respectfully ask all dog owners to help us maintain a safe and welcoming environment by keeping their dogs leashed and under control as required by county ordinance. Compliance not only fulfills a legal obligation but also demonstrates consideration for neighbors, visitors, children, other pets, and the natural environment that makes Fallen Leaf Lake such a special place.

We appreciate everyone’s cooperation and commitment to being good neighbors.

Thank you for your understanding and support.

Sincerely,

Don Ashton, General Manager
